Valley’s Edge Offers a Warm Perspective on Contemporary Design

Every component of this magnificent 6,300 square foot Bull Valley, Illinois home, set on ten acres of rolling land, was carefully planned to marry the interior and exterior with the site itself. Architects and builders from Orren Pickell Building Group worked with Thomas Sarti Girot Interiors to incorporate cutting-edge materials, technology and design acumen throughout.

The home features six bedrooms, a state-of-the-art scullery kitchen, and a great room with a vaulted ceiling and a two-sided fireplace that peeks through to the pillowed maple library. In addition, the home boasts a first-floor guest suite that leads out to the pool, a second-floor kids’ family room, and an expansive family workshop and mudroom. The walk-out basement includes a family room with a wet bar, a wine room, an exercise room and a luxurious teak sauna. Behind the scenes, the forward-looking design utilizes advanced lighting and home controls, wallboard that cleans the air and muffles sound, and other innovations.

A varied footprint creates a striking interplay of light and shadow across the exterior, and brings together stone, stucco and corten steel. Inside, American walnut takes center stage in the floors, slab stairs and an oversized pivoting front door, while the kitchen and baths express a lighter aesthetic marked by glass, tile and stainless steel. Wood, natural stone and burnished metal extend color and textures indoors and out.
